The first thing to do when planning on buying a patio furniture bench is to decide exactly what size it should be. You can get two person patio benches right up to a garden bench big enough for four or five people at a squeeze. Most people seem to prefer the two seater benches as this will add an additional two seating places but not be too big or take up too much space.

Next you need to decide what style of garden bench you would prefer and which materials it should be made from. There are a variety of different materials used and the prices tend to match the materials. This means that plastic patio benches are cheapest and cast iron patio benches are usually the most expensive.

In between these two extremes are the other materials such as wicker, steel and aluminium but timber is also a very popular choice. Keep in mind the effects of weather on any of the different construction materials used. Timber may need treating to protect it from the weather and the bleaching effects of the sun while wicker garden furniture can be affected by the weather so it is best stored in the garage or a store shed for the winter.
