Cheaper patio sets may be made from steel which will require a weather proof coating and annual attention to ensure the protection is still doing its job but the other metals can withstand anything the weather throws at them.
Cast iron patio furniture is expensive and heavy but will last for generations. Aluminum is a weather resistant material and cast aluminium patio furniture is very light yet sturdy and strong and makes an excellent choice for your patio. Both of these cast metals are almost unaffected by rain and snow and will
